 Heaven of orchids 

This small, hamlet is famous for cultivating rare species of Himalayan orchids in greenhouses. Yakten is perfect for those who want to explore natural forest trails amidst a colorful array of rare Himalayan orchids and flowers. 

A wide variety of rare species of orchids can be found here like  Cymbidium, Dendrobium, Coelogyne , Pleione ,Phalaenopsis ,Paphiopedilum etc.


Paradise for birds lover

Yakten is a paradise for bird watchers; numerous rare species of birds and butterflies can be captured by enthusiastic photographers. In the early morning, some can get glimpses of unseen rare Himalayan birds from the heritage forest.

 Some of the rare species of birds found in Yakten village include the Blood Pheasant, Satyr Tragopan, Ward's Trogon, Himalayan Monal, and the Fire-tailed Myzornis. 

 Homely organic foods 

Mouth-watering, fresh, organic local cuisine will surely fulfill your appetite. The people of Sikkim mostly cater to rice, with different types of vegetable and non-vegetable curries, dal, soup, pickles, and local organic vegetable dishes. In addition to this regular cuisine, one can also try some local dishes like MoMo, Thuppa, Gunruk Soup, Gurkha Chutney, etc. 

 Activity in Yakten 

In the early morning, a nature trek to Jhandi Dara through the heritage forest is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The spectacular view of the Mt. Kanchenjunga range will surely mesmerize you. After breakfast, you can enjoy the day at a local viewpoint with a cup of Darjeeling tea or explore nearby attractions such as the Orchid Greenhouse, Kartok Monastery, Kartok Nursery, Bojoyetar Playground, and even participate in a football match with locals.

In the evening, you can enjoy a campfire with traditional barbecue and local folk songs (optional), or learn about the local culture from an old storyteller.


 Climate and best time to visit 

Yakten village is the perfect destination for almost all seasons.

Summer season: Summers are mild, with maximum temperatures never crossing 24°C. The pleasant climate attracts many tourists during this season.

Monsoon or Rainy season: The monsoons are accompanied by intense rain, lasting from July to August. During this time, colorful clouds create a panoramic attraction in this hamlet.

Winter season: Winters in Yakten are quite extreme, with temperatures hovering between 12°C to 4°C. However, it is one of the best times to visit.

What to wear: As the temperatures are chilling even in summer, tourists should carry light woolen clothes for summer and heavy woolen clothes for winter.
